Do you even Lichtenberg, bro?
/If you’ve read anything about that fictional scenius of funtime misfits otherwise known as the Backstreet Community Arts Writers Group, you know that they are an unruly bunch, given to creating chaos when they’re not sharing absolutely brilliant pieces of writing.
That’s how I ended up at a pro wrestling match a couple of Fridays ago, for example, after the topic came up at Writers Group and one of them whipped out the phone and found Action Wrestling at Tyrone, GA — and then had an amazing evening watching those athletes perform choreography that would make Twyla Tharp or Mark Morris proud.
It’s how I ended up with a shelf-full of Bug books to create after one morning of no one sharing work and joking around about a very bad idea for a children’s book.
And now, because they were goofing off again yesterday, they have a new assignment for next week: Bring in a printed list of every project that you have started or even thought about starting but which you have not finished. In other words, what is in your Lichtenbergian Hall of Procrastinatory Fame?
Here’s mine, tidily categorized for your examination:
Things I Need to Finish
Bug’s Nap
Bug’s Dream
Bug’s Friend
Bug’s Memories
Bug’s Ideas
CREATE•U
Things I Would Like to Finish
Jobie’s Straight (a sitcom about a gay man whose straight poker buddies decide to help him find a boyfriend)
Things I Need to Start
Two “showstopping dance numbers” for that clown in Beijing
N•E•W•N•A•N: THE PAGEANTING, a work on spec for Newnan’s Bicentennial in 2028
The “Cecil” Project (an orchestral suite)
Things That Would Be Great If I Did Them But I Probably Won’t
Symphony in G
Symphony for Band
Marina Abramovic instas, which I will have to explain in another post because it’s just such silly, petty fun
Things I Can’t Finish
There’s my list. If you need me, I’ll be over here AVOIDING every single one of them.
(For example, yesterday I went on a side quest when I realized that some .midi files of mine that have not been playable for decades could be opened in Dorico and futzed with to bring them back to life.)
