GALAXY PROJECT LOGO w: border.jpg

The GALAXY Project is a light-art installation conceived for Alchemy, Georgia’s burn. Designed by Dale Lyles and chief engineer Kevin McInturff, it consists of 196 rings of electroluminescent wire which grow from a scattered group into a single thread that winds into a spiral labyrinth.

As the sun begins to set, GALAXY will glow into the night, attracting burners to its mysterious spiral. It will become both a destination and a guidepost.

At the burn, it will be placed in “Lake Ruby,” the Central–Park-like area in the middle of the burn, so named because it floods into a shallow lake if it rains. The area is not suitable for camping, but as the burn settles into its fourth year on the property, more and more artists are using it as a canvas. (The EL wire rings will be elevated above the ground so that even if it rains, the reflections in the water will still create a stunning image.)

GALAXY had its debut on Sat, Dec 4, 2021, at Unsilent Night Newnan.
