Fun Friday Resources
/I have multiple apps on my laptop for writing/layout/publishing, having started with ClarisWorks and PageMaker back in the last century and moving through the years just picking up one after another.
For basic typing, I stick with Apple’s Pages, but for actual authoring — for Lichtenbergianism: procrastination as a creative strategy, for example — I use Literature & Latte’s Scrivener. It’s set up for fiction, nonfiction, scripts, and it gives you a lot of tools and options for research, footnotes, illustrations, characters, settings, etc. Best of all, it’s not expensive!
I recommend it to the writers at Backstreet Arts, and I’m recommending it to you. My advice is to do the included tutorial, get to work, and after a month or so go back and do the tutorial again. You’ll find yourself acknowledging tools that you didn’t pay attention to the first time.
And speaking of tutorials, here’s an enormous collection of instructional videos for Scrivener, top to bottom!
Any time I begin to swell with pride over the fact that I built my backyard labyrinth and its setting single-handedly, I come across an artist whose vision is truly all-consuming and unbelievably epic. Such is the case with Star Axis, a staggering work of earth sculpture that Charles Ross has been working to create for 50 years. Watch the video!
(Fair warning: There is so much to explore on that site — take your time!)
Finally, here’s Reelizer, “film art, curated,” and it’s exactly what it says: gorgeous art created for films all over the world, selected by Roger Erik Tinch. Great resource for inspiration/STEALING FROM THE BEST!
BUGVERSE UPDATE: I am one idea away from finishing A Bug’s Dream, and it’s ADORABLE. Probably looking at Monday, maybe.
