Monday update

I’m calling this post an update so I can pretend I’ve accomplished something. (Technically, I have accomplished something: I’ve typed some words and hit PUBLISH.)

Here are the projects I am currently procrastinating practicing TASK AVOIDANCE on:

  • Ten Little Waltzes: Five are done. One is in progress. Four more to go.

  • The Beethoven Blueprint: Coherent shinyperfects are starting to extrude themselves into a WASTE BOOK; still working on giving the concept a concrete structure

  • The Cecil Project: a larger symphonic work that will never get finished, but which will be fun to work on while I continue to struggle to learn how MuseScore works. (Hold that thought.)

  • That Other Huge Project: I’ve been invited to join an exciting online start-up thing, and my brain just can’t get started on what’s necessary to get my part done. It’s concerning.

  • Reconfiguring the string lights for the patio: In the past I’ve strung lights from the branches of the trees, but 1) the limbs keep falling off; and 2) the squirrels keep chewing through the wires. I’m devising extensions to the fenceposts, to which I will attach hooks so we can easily string the lights up when we need them but take them down and store them so the squirrels can’t damage them. (Note: This may have to wait for cooler weather.)

In addition to all my unfinished projects, I’ll be traveling a bit every month, plus all my duties as the theme camp organizer (TCO) for 3 Old Men, so I’m not counting on making much progress. The good news is that even if I don’t ever get any of these projects done, it’s fine: No agent or publisher is yelling at me, no orchestra is waiting for the symphony, and that other huge project does not depend on my contribution to get off the ground.

See, it’s good to be an unknown amateur, right?
