Okay, a Little Waltz for real...

…almost.

I pulled up my ABORTIVE ATTEMPTS file and started playing with Little Waltz L, pulling it out and putting it into its own Musescore file. (All those ABORTIVE ATTEMPTS can be viewed here.) It wasn’t making me happy much, so I went back into the main file and pulled out Little Waltz P and tacked it on.

Better. It’s a contrasting section and actually provides a nice lead-in back to the main theme.

I’m still working on it, so it breaks off rather suddenly. What I think I’m going to do is the continue the triplets under the repeat of the main theme, maybe beef that passage up to sound… beefier?

Here’s the score so far: abortive attempt for Little Waltz L/P [pdf]

And here’s the sound file:

Speaking of triplets, I wish to make a complaint. In Finale (‡), if you wanted to input triplets, you selected your note value, say an eighth note, and then clicked on the triplet tool, and voila, you just played or clicked triplet after triplet.

Not so in MuseScore (nor in Dorico) — no, you first have to define the value of the entire triplet, e.g., a quarter note, then click on the triplet menu item, then tell it you want a triplet, and then — and only then — will placeholders appear for your triplet. You are now free to enter your three notes.

But if you still need a triplet on the next beat… then you have to do all of the above again. For. Each. And. Every. Beat.

You can, after inputting one triplet, highlight it, then type ‘R’ for ‘repeat,’ and it will literally copy/paste that one triplet onto the next beat. You are now free to change those three notes into the next triplet. Ugh.

Also, MuseScore, while I have your attention, what’s with your open project management? Only one screen at a time is visible or even accessible. How about some tabs? Or actual windows that show up when I do the mouse-to-corner-to-reveal-all-open-windows-in-that-app swipe?

And what happened when I copied Waltz L into its own file, then added Waltz P to it, but when I swiped to the corner and chose another project, then repeated to go back to Waltz L/P — MY UPDATES WEREN’T THERE? I eventually stumbled on the updated version, but wtf, MuseScore?

Ugh.
