Time for a (Ritual) Retreat

Those who have read the book may remember that the Lichtenbergian Society, the group of creative men who founded our scenius based on the principle that procrastination is key to creativity, has two main RITUALS: the Annual Meeting, and the occasional Retreat. Tomorrow we go on Retreat.

The purpose of the Retreat is twofold: work on something that has needed to be worked on (TASK AVOIDANCE/ABANDONMENT), and fellowship. We have no ironclad schedule, but here’s what it generally looks like:

  • Thursday

    • Arrive at the cabin, figure out sleeping arrangements, socialize

  • Friday

    • Awaken, breakfast for those who want it

    • Work

    • Lunch

    • Work some more

    • Supper, hot tub, socialize, movies, games

  • Saturday

    • Repeat

  • Sunday

    • Return to real life

It’s amazing what you can accomplish on a project that you could just as easily have finished at home when you’re away from home. Plus hot tub.

What am I taking to work on? I’m going to design and perhaps begin laying out Lichtenbergianism for Kids. Will I return home with a completed book ready for publication?
