Fun Friday Resources

Chronoscope World is a super cool site that lets you explore the past through the changing shape, labels, and accuracy of maps. That first link takes you to the abundant home page; go here to jump right in without looking first.

More time travel: The always–amazing Public Domain Review takes us through a couple of centuries of documented extinction of species. While it’s a kind of bitter nostalgia to look back at the aurochs, for example, it’s best to remember that extinction is ongoing: Here and here, as starters for you.

I was unaware of the Kokuyo Design Awards — how, as a office supply junkie, I do not understand (I mean, on a Viking River Cruise up the Danube we went on an optional tour of the Faber-Castell pencil factory) — but let that pass. Here are this year’s winners, and I would like to temper everyone’s enthusiasm by pointing out that these are merely design proposals, not commercially available products. (I’ll take all the notebooks, of course, and that Gradient Diary looks cool.)
