Fun Friday Resources

Actually, just one resource this week, but I think you’ll appreciate it.

I’ve been a fan of Andy Goldsworthy since the early days of the internet — I have several actual books about his work, that’s how long I’ve been a fan.

Goldsworthy has spent his career building mostly ephemeral art of completely natural materials, as exemplified by the stunning “iris” on the right. Do go looking for his work; it’s inspiring, and his permanent pieces of stone are impressive.

With that in mind, I was excited to click through to a blog post entitled “On Ampersands,” by Dave Morris, with the added frisson of our Backstreet Arts &…Zine using an ampersand as our catch-all, inclusive brand. I have an entire typeface of ampersands and I was excited to see a man’s Goldsworthy-worthy pursuit of creating different ampersands on his Scottish beach.

It is so much more than that, though, and that’s why it’s the only resource this fun Friday. It’s a lovely essay on creativity, attention, and family, and you should absolutely read the whole thing.

I think you will want to. There are lessons to be learned.
