So you didn't go to art school...

One of the key points I try to make in the book and on this blog is that creativity is not dependent on training, i.e., you don’t have to go to art school or music school or etc to create art.

Let me say up front that of course people who have the aptitude and/or the interest and/or the drive to be professionally trained are going to produce more polished artifacts than the rest of us, but that doesn’t negate my main point: All of us are creative and can create whatever kind of art we want to and as much as we like.

I can prove it.

Which art school did this artist go to?

Which conservatory produced this piece?

Or this?

Which university MFA wrote this?

Or even this?

Remember, when people ask how I’ve composed what I’ve composed when I’ve had no training in it, I answer, “Because no one told me I couldn’t.”

So who’s telling you you can’t?

Is it you?
