Fun Friday Resources

Only one resource this week, but it’s always one of my annual favorites: The Duke University Center for the Study of the Public Domain’s release of those creative works which will pass into the public domain on January 1.

This is your chance — if you have ever wanted to write a musical based on Dick and Jane or As I Lay Dying or Freud’s Civilization and Its Discontents, this is your day.

My personal choice would be to create a bunraku puppet play of Elizabeth Coatsworth’s The Cat Who Went to Heaven, because who doesn’t want to go to a performance based on one of the most beloved of Newbery Award-winning children’s books and sob their hearts out?

Go check out the whole report, which features not only books, but films, songs, recordings, comics, and art — and imagine what you could do with the cultural resources now available for you to use!
