Fun Friday Resources

Here are two “how to learn electronic music” websites that are at least fun to explore, presented by Ableton and Roland.

For a more traditional approach, here’s Music Theory for Musicians and Normal People. It’s a series of posters, free for you to download and print.

A very handy image-cleaner-upper, ImgUpscaler.com. It’s free to use for up to 10 images per week. Here’s a comparison of two images:

from Newnan Community Theatre Company’s 1995 production of A Winter’s Tale;
Everett Thrall as Leontes, Grayson Lyles as Mamillius

The photo on the left is a 27-year-old gif file, one that’s pretty jaggy and low-res. After converting it to a jpg (using Pixelmator Pro), ImgUpscaler was at least able to smooth out some of the jaggies, although ironically some of the detail of Leontes’ black fabric suit is lost.

And here’s a fun, if eye-opening, activity: The Back of Your Hand. How well do you know your neighborhood? It made me realize that I would never be able to pass a cab-driver’s exam on my immediate surroundings.
