Abortive Attempts: music for AYLI

The other night I invited the cast of As You Like It to compose music for some of the songs. I reserved “Juno’s Hymn” and all the music for the finale for myself, since I already know what I need it to be.

Without giving too much away at this point, here’s an ABORTIVE ATTEMPT at the hymn:

Very stodgy, and I almost ABANDONED it and tried another approach. But then I imagined it as the concluding dance, and I think the trade-off is worth it. As I told the cast, no one will remember how boring the hymn was, but they’ll leave the theatre still tapping their feet at the gigue.

There’s a lot to play with here, and remember that I will be fully orchestrating it in GarageBand with all the snazzy EDM instruments. (I have a tendency to go wild during the orchestration process. Things appear that weren’t there in the score…)

Stay tuned.
