More AYLI music, part 4

As longtime readers of this blog know — and by ‘longtime’ we mean here ‘about a month’ — the cast of As You Like it are utter failures at writing the music for the songs in the show (and by ‘failures’ we mean here ‘refused to do it’).

So I sat me down and knocked out “Under the greenwood tree”:

And then I went back to “Juno’s Gigue” and extended it. Here’s what is happening: the cast does their joyous dance, celebrating all that is good and fun out there in the Temporary Autonomous Zone, and then the music kind of goes sideways for a moment, and the cast goes into slo-mo while Rosalind steps out of time and comes downstage to deliver the Epilogue. She has 1’10” to do that before the music slams back into real time. They finish that last section of the dance, and we move straight into the curtain call.

So if you’re keeping score at home:

  1. Under the greenwood tree (2.5)

  2. Blow, blow, thou winter wind (2.7)

  3. It was a lover and his lass (5.3)

  4. Hymen’s Entrance (5.4)

  5. Juno’s Hymn (5.4)

  6. Juno’s Gigue (5.4)

That’s 6 for me, 0 for the cast.
