And finally, for our visual artists, both a resource and an assignment. Over on Artsy.net, browse through the art. Find art that appeals to you, or puzzles you, or intrigues you. Reverse engineer that stuff. STEAL FROM THE BEST: figure out what strategies the artist has developed in their work, and then apply it to your own.

Will you achieve the same results? No, because copying is not the point. Applying, testing, learning/rejecting techniques: that’s the point. You’ll use their strategies to create your own stuff.
